Fungal Infections
Skin diseases, such as ringwork, thrush, nail infections and athlete’s foot are caused by fungi.
Bacterial Infections
Common bacterial infections of the skin include folliculitis, impetigo, erysipelas and cellulitis.
Viral Infections
Viral infections are often associated with a particular type of skin rash, for example measles, chicken pox, hand, foot and mouth disease, cold sores and shingles. Patients with eczema have a pre-disposition to getting two types of viral infection; molluscum contagiosum and widespread cold sore infections.
Parasitic skin infection
parasitic infections can be caused by tiny organisms or insects burrowing beneath the skins surface and laying eggs which can cause surrounding tissue to become infected by the foreign body.
Different types of parasitic skin infections include:
- Lice- hair, body or pubic
- Bedbugs
- Scabies
